Custard made with rice malt syrup

Tried out the rice malt syrup by making custard. It actually turned out pretty good. Hubs was happier today as he is able to have some of the things he was craving for as a sugar free option. 

I cheated tonight & used bird’s custard powder (which has no sugar in it) instead of making it from scratch. I dissolve 2 tablespoons of custard powder in a cup of cold milk. Warm up 3 cups of milk in a pot & I add 2 tablespoons of rice malt syrup into the warming milk & stir to dissolve. Then I add the custard mixture in with the warming milk & the trick is to keep stirring as the custard thickens to prevent it from burning. Once thickened, remove from heat.. Pour into bowl to cool & it is ready to serve.
